Web-based Tool to Assess Risk for Diabetes and for Diabetes-related Complications
The American Diabetes Association has a new interactive web-based tool that makes it easier for people with diabetes -- and anyone at risk for developing diabetes, heart disease, or stroke -- to better manage their health. Diabetes PHD (Personal Health Decisions), a powerful new risk assessment, is available for use by consumers at no charge. In addition to assessing risk, it can be used to explore the effects of a wide variety of health care interventions, including losing weight, stopping smoking, and taking certain medications.
This tool is appropriate for those with diabetes as well as those at risk for diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. To access the tool, click on the Diabetes PHD web-link in the first paragraph or go to http://www.diabetes.org/diabetesphd/default.jsp?WTLPromo=ENEWS_PHD.
Q: What can be done to slow antibiotic resistance?
A: Avoid unnecessary antibiotic use.
Take an antibiotic exactly as the doctor tells you. Do not skip doses. Complete the prescribed course of treatment, even if you are feeling better. Do not demand antibiotics when a healthcare provider has determined they are not needed.
